Released: Friday, January 16, 2026

The latest data from Statistics Canada reveals that life expectancy in Canada has almost returned to pre-pandemic levels. In 2024, life expectancy of both sexes increased for the second consecutive year, reaching 82.16 years, up 0.48 years from 81.68 years in 2023. It’s a rebound from the declines experienced during the height of the global pandemic. The increase was greater among males, who climbed by 0.55 years to 80.03 years, compared to women, who saw an increase of 0.41 years to 84.29 years.
