How much are Canada’s natural resources worth?
Released: Friday, November 21, 2025
Canada is a resource-rich nation, ranking among the top in reserves for key natural resources such as potash, oil, gold, timber, and critical minerals. But what is the value of its natural resources? Each year, Statistics Canada releases data on the valuation of selected natural resources reserves that fall into three main categories: energy, timber and minerals. In 2024, Canada’s natural resource reserves were valued at $1.36 trillion, down 10% from $1.52. The change in value was driven mainly by fluctuations in the commodity prices rather than a change in stock of resources.
Data for this week’s chart comes from Statistics Canada Table 38-10-0006-01 Value of selected natural resource reserves (x 1,000,000).
