Fewer Canadians are visiting the United States. According to the latest data from Statistics Canada, Canadian residents made 2.25 million return trips to the United States in August 2025, down 29.7% compared to the same period a year ago. The number of Canadians going to the United States for day trips and overnight visits has decreased steadily since January 2025, when more than 3 million Canadians crossed the border. Between January and August, visits to the United States have recorded monthly declines in 6 of the 8 months, with only one increase during June. There have been eight straight months of year-over-year decreases in travel to the U.S. by Canadian residents since the start of the year.
