Released on October 9, 2026

In August, Canada recorded its sixth consecutive monthly trade surplus. That month, Canada reported total exports of goods valued at $77.8 billion and imports valued at $73.7 billion, which widened its trade surplus with the world from $787 million in July to $4.2 billion in August. Energy products and consumer goods contributed the most to the monthly change in exports. The United States remains a key market for Canadian exports despite new tariffs set to take effect at the end of August. Canada's trade surplus with the United States reached $11.2 billion in August, up from $6.1 billion in July. It was the biggest monthly gain ever in Canada’s trade balance with the United States.
