Alvin Tedjo wins Mississauga’s mayoral race

Released on October 30, 2026

Monday, October 26, was municipal election day in Ontario. Hotly contested races for city councillor and mayor dotted the province. In Mississauga, the mayoral race drew four main candidates, each with varying levels of name recognition, and support levels fluctuating from poll to poll throughout the campaign. All signs were pointing to a tight race in the final days of the campaign. The results were anything but. After the votes were counted, Mississauga elected Alvin Tedjo as its new mayor, who represents a generational shift. Tedjo’s focus on affordability and safety propelled him to victory, toppling incumbent Carolyn Parrish, former mayor Bonnie Crombie, and Councillor Dipika Damerla along the way. He secured 74,479 votes, representing just under 40% of the popular vote, 12 percentage points higher than the next closest opponent.
